FG approves new digital verification platform for NIN

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has introduced a new service called NIN Authentication (NIN Auth) to enable faster, more secure verification of the National Identification Number (NIN).
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos by the Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, the Commission announced that the Federal Government has directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to adopt the NIN Auth platform for identity verification processes.
According to NIMC, the NIN Auth service is accessible via web platforms, mobile applications, and APIs, ensuring flexibility and convenience. The Commission also emphasized its commitment to protecting citizens’ data and privacy.
“This initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to modernize identity management across Nigeria,” Adegoke stated.
The service is available at: https://ninauth.nimc.gov.ng
Additional information on the platform notes:
“NINAuth simplifies identity sharing by acting as a digital extension of your NIN—essentially, your ID in your pocket.
With support for W3C Decentralized Identifiers (DID) and Verifiable Credentials (VC), your NIN becomes portable, reusable, and widely accepted. No paperwork. No repetition. Just seamless, modern identity sharing.”
