Fire destroys properties worth billions in Kano scrap market

A fire broke out at a scrap market in Dakata, Kano State, destroying property worth billions of naira.

The Kano State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident, noting that no lives were lost. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire began after sparks were observed emanating from electric poles, which rapidly spread to a groundnut processing factory. The newly appointed Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Bakori, visited the scene, describing the incident as tragic. He also disclosed that a suspect was apprehended for attempting to loot goods amidst the chaos. Bakori assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted to prevent future occurrences. He commended the prompt response of the fire service personnel and local residents in extinguishing the blaze
