A devastating fire broke out in a mini shopping complex housing 20 shops in Ilorin, Kwara State, resulting in the destruction of goods worth millions of Naira. The incident occurred at Fufu Street, Sabo-Oke area of Ilorin, in Ilorin East Local Government, on Saturday.

According to Hassan Adekunle, the spokesman of the state fire service, the fire was triggered by a power surge at approximately 05.57 hours. Upon receiving the distress call, the Kwara State Fire Service swiftly responded, dispatching firefighting teams to the scene.

The firefighters worked diligently, using specialized equipment and firefighting techniques to control the flames and prevent further spread. Although one shop was affected in the mini shopping complex, the fire service personnel managed to minimize direct and indirect damages, saving other shops and valuable properties within the building.

Director of Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, took the opportunity to remind citizens of the importance of safety measures, advising them to switch off electrical appliances before bedtime to reduce the risk of fire outbreaks in their homes, offices, and shops. This simple precautionary step can go a long way in preventing devastating incidents like this in the future.
