Armed bandits have abducted a Fulani husband and wife during a midnight raid on Lafiagi community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday, June 4, 2026, when the gunmen stormed the community, firing several gunshots to create panic among residents before whisking the couple away to an unknown destination.

Sources within the community said the kidnapped husband is related to a prominent Fulani leader who was recently targeted by armed men in another violent attack in the area.

As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said official confirmation of the incident was still being awaited.

The latest abduction comes amid growing insecurity in Edu Local Government Area and other parts of Kwara North.

Just 48 hours before the Lafiagi attack, bandits reportedly invaded the Sodo/Sawmill area of the community, where they killed a male resident and abducted two women, identified as wives of a local Fulani leader, after failing to locate their primary target.

In a related incident on Thursday morning, suspected bandits attacked Lema community in Edu LGA, killing one person and abducting two others.

Security observers have expressed concern over the rising wave of kidnappings and violent attacks in the area. Analysts believe that some armed groups displaced by military operations in northern Nigeria are relocating to forested border communities in Kwara State, where they exploit weak security presence and porous rural routes to carry out attacks.

Residents have continued to call for increased security deployment across affected communities as fears grow over the worsening security situation in Edu Local Government Area.
