Four female students of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, Ogun State, fell victim to sexual assault by criminals, as officially verified by the State Government.

The perpetrators, described as hoodlums, unlawfully entered the students’ hostels in the early hours of a Tuesday, subjecting the female students to sexual violence. These disturbing events unfolded within a hostel situated at Abapawa, a location beyond the university campus.

Reacting swiftly to the heinous act, Deputy Governor Mrs. Noimot Salako-Oyedele took immediate action. She visited the four victims, who were undergoing treatment at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu. This visit was conducted in the company of State Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun, and Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Abayomi Arigbabu.

The incident has ignited outrage and raised concerns regarding the safety and security of students in the area. Authorities are working tirelessly to bring the culprits to justice and implement enhanced safety measures in the region.

In a post on her verified Facebook page, the Deputy Governor described the incident as “distressing and brutal”.

She said, “after receiving the distressing news about armed robbery at some TASUED hostels and the brutal rape of four female students, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun CON directed me to immediately visit the victims and the campus on a fact finding mission and to pledge the Government’s support in ensuring this doesn’t happen again.

“I have visited the girls who are now being cared for and given the necessary support to heal from their trauma at the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) at OSUTH.”

She added that she had a crucial meeting with the Management and Students of TASUED in company of Alamutu and Arigbabu, to discuss concrete steps to bolster security measures and foster a safe environment on campus and the adjacent host community.

According to her, CP Alamutu had promised to arrest the perpetrators of the crime.
