Suspected armed Fulani bandits have killed two persons and injured three others in an attack on mourners gathered for a burial ceremony in Angwar Magaji village, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to security sources, the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when the gunmen reportedly invaded the community and opened fire on residents attending a burial gathering, causing panic and confusion among mourners.

The attackers were said to have shot indiscriminately, resulting in the death of two villagers, while three others sustained varying degrees of injuries during the assault.

Following a distress call, troops of Operation Enduring Peace were immediately mobilised to the area and responded swiftly to the attack. However, by the time the security personnel arrived at the scene, the assailants had fled.

The troops conducted an assessment of the situation and confirmed that two residents had lost their lives, while three injured victims were rescued and evacuated for urgent medical attention.

The wounded victims were subsequently taken to the Primary Health Care Centre in Barkin Kogi, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Security agencies have launched efforts to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks in the area. Military authorities assured residents that operations were ongoing to apprehend those responsible and restore calm to the affected community.

The latest attack adds to growing security concerns in parts of Southern Kaduna, where communities have continued to face threats from armed bandits and other criminal elements.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies to aid ongoing operations.
