Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, reached out to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) seeking assistance to overhaul the state’s education sector. During a visit to TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Arc Sonny Echono, in Abuja, Governor Lawal highlighted the challenges faced by Zamfara in education and emphasized the crucial role of education in the state’s progress.

Acknowledging the state’s limitations due to financial resources, Governor Lawal expressed the need for support from TETFund to tackle the pressing issues in the education sector. He stressed that education is paramount for the state’s advancement and called for encouragement and backing to bring about positive change.

Governor Lawal, whose campaign during the 2023 general elections emphasized security and education, recognized the significance of these two aspects in shaping Zamfara’s future. With the state grappling with insecurity challenges, he looked to TETFund as a potential solution to foster human capital development and improve educational opportunities for the people of Zamfara.

In response, the TETFund Executive Secretary appreciated Governor Lawal’s dedication to human capital development and acknowledged Zamfara’s rich resources that can be tapped to drive educational growth. He assured the governor that TETFund had already made provisions for security infrastructure in public tertiary educational institutions, considering the state’s specific needs.

Arc Sonny Echono disclosed that TETFund had already initiated plans to address the issue of insecurity in Zamfara’s institutions, with several projects lined up for implementation. He further committed to prioritizing interventions based on approved guidelines and making allocations accordingly.

The TETFund boss also lauded the Zamfara government for the remarkable increase in the number of candidates from the state participating in the national common entrance examination into Federal Government Colleges. The state’s efforts in fostering educational access and opportunities were recognized as a positive step towards empowering its youth and improving educational outcomes.
