Gunmen kill serving Army Colonel at Abuja residence, wife, two others injured

A serving officer of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Abdussalam Ude, has been killed after gunmen attacked his residence in the Kurudu area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

According to sources, the incident happened on Monday evening shortly after the senior military officer arrived home from work.

The assailants were reportedly attempting to abduct either the officer or members of his family when the attack turned deadly. Colonel Ude was shot and killed, while his wife, driver, and security guard suffered gunshot wounds during the incident.

The injured victims were rushed to a hospital, where they are receiving medical attention.

The exact circumstances surrounding the attack are still unclear, and authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the assault.

Security operatives and military authorities have launched investigations aimed at tracking down those responsible for the killing.

Colonel Ude, an indigene of Enugu State, served in the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps and occupied several key intelligence and counter-terrorism positions throughout his career.

He was involved in military operations against insurgents in Nigeria’s North-East and also served on international assignments, including deployments to the Republic of Chad and France, where he supported intelligence and security cooperation.

Colleagues reportedly described him as a committed and highly professional officer.

As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Army had yet to release an official statement on the incident, while investigations remain ongoing.
