I gave my dad a huge gift, he only said ‘thanks’ – Lizzy Gold

Nollywood actress Lizzy Gold has voiced her frustration over what she describes as her father’s growing sense of entitlement, following his lukewarm response to a generous Easter cash gift.

In a candid post shared on her social media page, the actress revealed that she enjoys surprising her father with late-night money transfers, especially because she looks forward to waking up to his heartfelt prayers—a gesture that inspires her to give more.

However, her recent experience left her disheartened. Lizzy said her father had earlier messaged her saying, “Baby, how far na? Do Easter for your papa na.” She deliberately ignored the message during the day and decided to send him a “huge amount” of money at 2 a.m., expecting his usual emotional gratitude and prayers.

To her disappointment, his response was a simple “Thanks”, without any prayer or emotional message.

“I called him and told him I wasn’t happy,” Lizzy explained. “This money is ten times more than what I usually send, and all I got was just ‘thanks’? He told me he had already prayed for me in his heart, but that wasn’t enough. I work hard for my money, and those prayers encourage me to do more.”

She went on to say that the experience has made her reconsider sending him surprise gifts, noting that his attitude reflects an entitlement mentality.

“Why do some family members feel entitled? He probably thinks, ‘She’s my daughter, she’s supposed to give me money,’ and sees no reason to express appreciation. But I’ve decided I won’t be surprising him anymore,” she added.
