An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan has remanded four individuals in a correctional facility over charges of armed robbery and murder.

The suspects—Moshood Adesanmi, 38, Abiodun Akinboye, 30, Nathaniel Adedokun, 54, and Tiamiyu Sarafa, 45—are facing charges including conspiracy, armed robbery, murder, and receiving stolen property. Their addresses were not provided.

Magistrate Mrs. Adebola Adeola did not take the plea of the defendants, citing lack of jurisdiction, and instructed the police to forward the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice. The case was adjourned to December 5 for mention.

Prosecutor Insp. Iyabo Oladoyin informed the court that the offences occurred on July 23 at 10:00 p.m. in the Akinyele area of Ibadan. According to Oladoyin, the defendants, in conspiracy with others still at large, attacked Taiwo Adegboyega, an escort for a MACK truck carrying household goods valued at N100 million. The goods were intended for delivery to a camp for people with disabilities in Borno State.

Oladoyin further alleged that the defendants robbed Adegboyega and Rasak Adeyemi, taking their truck, and caused the death of the 27-year-old Adegboyega. Adedokun and others are also accused of receiving a container of stolen goods from Adesanmi and Akinboye, knowing they were taken at gunpoint.

The charges contravene sections 516 and 319 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State (2000) and sections 6(b) and 1(2) of the Robbery and Firearms Laws of Nigeria (2004).
