In a show of support for Governor Douye Diri, former President Goodluck Jonathan has revealed that he would have relocated his mother from Bayelsa State to Abuja had the governor lost his reelection bid. Jonathan emphasized the crucial role of Diri’s victory in ensuring the safety and security of Bayelsa State.

During a visit to Diri in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, the former president underscored the importance of the governor’s determination to address insecurity in the region. Jonathan expressed his belief that the gains made in tackling security challenges in the state would have been jeopardized had Governor Diri not secured a victory in the election.

“We don’t want to go into an unnecessary crisis in the state. Results have been declared, and we believe the election was conducted. We believe the governor won the election, and we plead that people should accept it and work with the governor. Let all of us support him so that the state will move ahead,” Jonathan stated.

The former president urged the people of Bayelsa to prioritize the development of the state, emphasizing the need for peace and security. He acknowledged the progress made in the last three years in addressing issues such as cultism and kidnapping.

“There should be nothing that will push the state backwards. We should think about the development of the state, starting with the issue of peace and security in the state,” Jonathan added.
