June 12: Tinubu cancels Democracy Day broadcast

The Presidency has confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not deliver a nationwide broadcast to mark this year’s Democracy Day.
Instead, the President will address a joint session of the National Assembly today, June 12, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 26th Democracy Day anniversary.
The Special Adviser disclosed this to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who noted that President Tinubu’s address will focus on Nigeria’s democratic journey since 1993.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will address a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday, Democracy Day,” Onanuga wrote. “In his speech, he will reflect on our nation’s democratic journey since 1993, honour the heroes and heroines of our democratic struggle, and outline his vision for building a prosperous nation that benefits all Nigerians.”
IDOMA VOICE earlier reported the cancellation of the President’s planned nationwide broadcast, which was initially part of the official Democracy Day celebration schedule.
This development follows the Federal Government’s earlier announcement cancelling the traditional military parade for this year’s Democracy Day commemoration.
According to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Democracy Day Celebrations, President Tinubu will participate in the special joint session of the National Assembly at 12 noon. The session is expected to feature deliberations on the State of the Nation, Nigeria’s democratic evolution, and calls for unity and national renewal.
A public lecture is also scheduled to take place at 4 p.m. at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, concluding the day’s commemorative events.
