Italian giants Juventus are reportedly considering Nigerian international Raphael Onyedika as a potential replacement for Douglas Luiz, as the club plans a reshuffle in midfield ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Douglas Luiz appears to be on his way out of Turin after just one season, with the Bianconeri seeking a more sustainable and long-term option in the heart of midfield, according to reports from Italy.

The Brazilian joined Juventus from Aston Villa last summer in a deal worth around $60 million. However, he struggled to find his footing at the Allianz Stadium, featuring in only 19 matches and earning just three starts. Under new manager Igor Tudor, Luiz played just 37 minutes across the team’s final nine Serie A fixtures.

With Manuel Locatelli now favoured in the defensive midfield role, Juventus are reportedly open to offers for Luiz. Though his current contract runs until 2029, the club is believed to have placed a valuation of approximately $40 million on the 26-year-old midfielder.

Reports from Italy and the UK suggest Premier League side Everton have already expressed interest in Luiz, while Juventus are proactively exploring alternatives. One of the key names under consideration is Raphael Onyedika of Belgian side Club Brugge.

According to FootItalia, Juventus scouts were recently dispatched to assess Onyedika’s performances firsthand, as part of contingency plans in the event Luiz departs.

The 24-year-old Nigerian has been a standout performer in Belgium since joining Club Brugge and has attracted interest from other European clubs, including AC Milan and Atalanta. Known for his athleticism, composure on the ball, and defensive acumen, Onyedika is viewed as a player capable of fitting seamlessly into Juventus’ evolving midfield setup.
