Redeemer’s University Explains One-Year Suspension of Law Program by JAMB

Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun, has provided clarification on the suspension of its law programme for the 2025/2026 academic session by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs, Adetunji Adeleye, the university explained that the suspension was a penalty from the Council for Legal Education (CLE) for initially launching the programme in 2017 with only the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC), without CLE’s approval.

The statement emphasized that Redeemer’s University currently holds full accreditation from both the NUC and CLE to run its undergraduate law programme. However, the one-year suspension will not impact current students enrolled in the law programme.

“Redeemer’s University holds all regulatory bodies in high regard and will comply with the penalty by refraining from offering admission into the law programme for the 2025/2026 academic session,” the statement read. It further encouraged prospective students to apply to other accredited programmes offered by the university.

On Thursday, JAMB announced the suspension of admissions for law programmes at eight universities, following the CLE’s suspension of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programmes for the 2025/2026 session due to regulatory violations.

The universities affected by the suspension include: Kwara State University, Malete; Bingham University, Karu; Redeemer’s University, Ede; Western Delta University, Oghara; Taraba State University, Jalingo; Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo; Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike; and the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil.

JAMB postpones 2025 UTME registration

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has postponed the start of registration for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which was initially set to begin on Friday, 31 January.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB announced that registration will now begin on Monday, 3 February. The delay is to allow the board to make necessary adjustments to its registration system.

JAMB explained that the postponement also follows a review of certain Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres, some of which had used deceptive facilities to gain approval. The board is working to address this issue and ensure proper compliance.

“The adjustments are also in response to the recent suspension of law programs at selected universities, as communicated to the Board by the Council for Legal Education,” the statement noted.

JAMB expressed regret over the inconvenience this delay may cause candidates and other stakeholders, offering sincere apologies.

Suspension of Law Programs in Selected Universities

As previously reported by PREMIUM TIMES, JAMB will not process admissions for the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) program at eight universities for the 2025/2026 academic session. This follows the suspension of law programs at these institutions by the Council of Legal Education (CLE), the highest body governing legal education in Nigeria.

The affected universities are:

  • Kwara State University, Malete, Kwara State
  • Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State
  • Redeemers University, Ede, Osun State
  • Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State
  • Taraba State University, Jalingo, Taraba State
  • Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River State
  • Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State
  • Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State

UTME 2025

JAMB conducts the UTME, the entrance examination for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions. The board also manages the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS), through which tertiary institutions offer admissions to successful candidates.

An estimated 1.5 million candidates are expected to register for the 2025 UTME when the process begins.
