Lekki massacre only happened on social media – Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has argued that nobody was killed when men of the Nigerian army opened fire on peaceful #ENDSARS protesters at Lekki tollgate.

Mohammed who said this during a meeting with Southeast leaders alleged that the Lekki massacre only happened on social media.

Further arguing that investigations revealed that no one was killed, Mohammed said that the protest was targeted at discrediting the efforts of the Federal Government.

“There was no massacre at the Lekki Toll Gate. The only massacre that took place during the EndSARS protest was the social media massacre.

“Fake news was used; they used social media to spread what did not happen, which led to reprisals,” Mohammed said.

Insisting that social media must be regulated, Mohammed revealed that the Federal Government as far back as 2017 kicked off a campaign against fake news because of cases like what happened in Lekki tollgate.

“There must be social media regulation. But social media regulation does not mean stifling the media, it does not mean shutting down the social media, it means responsive use of the social media. Fake news can shake the cause of the world,” Mohammed added.
