Man slumps, dies during wife’s 60th birthday celebration in Lagos

Tragedy struck on Saturday at an event centre in the Egbeda area of Lagos State when a man identified as Akinyele suddenly slumped and died during his wife’s 60th birthday celebration.

A viral video seen by our correspondent on Sunday captured the shocking moment Akinyele collapsed while speaking on stage. Just before the incident, he was seen calling his wife over and quietly requesting a glass of water.

When she didn’t respond immediately, he made a second gesture indicating his need. Mere seconds later, he lost balance and slumped to the ground.

Witnesses rushed to assist him, and he was quickly taken to a nearby hospital after initial attempts to revive him at the venue failed. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Command for confirmation were unsuccessful. The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, had not responded to messages sent to his mobile phone.
