Man Utd star, Rashford suffers racial abuse on social media after Europa league loss

Marcus Rashford was subjected to more racial abuse on his social media accounts after Manchester United’s Europa League final defeat in Gdansk.

The England striker said he had received “at least 70 racial slurs” on social media after the penalty shootout loss to Villarreal.

Rashford tweeted within hours of the team’s match in Gdansk on Wednesday night to reveal he had been subjected to online racial abuse.

He singled out a maths teacher with an open profile who had sent monkey emojis to him in a direct message. “At least 70 racial slurs on my social accounts counted so far. For those working to make me feel any worse than I already do, good luck trying,” Rashford tweeted.

Minutes later he added: “I’m more outraged that one of the abusers that left a mountain of monkey emojis in my DM is a maths teacher with an open profile. He teaches children!! And knows that he can freely racially abuse without consequence.”

The footballer also shared a message sent from an anonymous account, with the handle Chocospino, that was sent two hours after the final ended. It reads: “You deserve it man you are awful.”

It is not the first time Rashford has been the target of social media abuse. In January, Greater Manchester police investigated racist comments sent to the 23-year-old and a number of other players.
