Mass exodus hits PDP as Abba Gida-Gid, thousands of Kwankwaso supporters join NNPP
Abba Kabir Yusuf, who contested the 2019 governorship election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has decamped to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Yusuf, also known as Abba Gida-Gid defected alongside Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, his running mate in the election, and many other members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
This is believed to be part of the agenda towards the planned defection of the movement’s leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Daily Trust reports.
Kwankwaso is reportedly targeting March 30 for his defection to the newly resuscitated party.
Announcing their defection at a gathering on Sunday at Kwankwasiyya House at Diso ward in Kano, Abba Gida-Gida said they have discovered that the PDP was not different from the All Progressive Party (APC) which they left in 2018.
“Today, God in his infinite mercy has joined us once again in this Kwankwasiyya house at Diso ward. We met here in 2018 when we entered the PDP and officially told the world that we have left the APC. Our reason for leaving the APC at that time was because of injustice. They have went on the wrong lane they were not supposed to.
“When they started doing things that were unholy, we decided we cannot move along with them and defected to the PDP. At that time, we thought there’s difference between the APC and PDP. It is after we went a long way, we discovered that they are all birds of a feather. The reasons that had us defect from APC is the same thing we found ourselves deeply in the PDP.
“The PDP has done a lot of unfavourable things especially at the national headquarters. We thought they would do Justice to us, especially our leader, Kwankwaso.
“We thought the PDP will show love to the people of Kano state who came out massively in the year 2019 and voted for the party. But what it is doing in return is going against leaders. We discovered that whoever has the masses at heart, the party doesn’t like that person.
“It is time we heed to the followers of the kwankwasiyya movement who have been calling on the leadership to leave these cheaters because they have seen that we don’t have a place there. We sat and reviewed the call and have given in to their request. We have decided that this party (raising a pineapple) is the one that is going to save the masses out of the trap they are in.”
