A fire outbreak at Global Crystal Foam Nigeria Limited in Oyo, Oyo State, has destroyed property worth millions of naira.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening at the company’s facility located in the Oko-Oba area along Akinmorin Road.

The fire, which gutted the factory’s warehouse, reportedly started over an hour before the Oyo State Fire Service was alerted.

According to reports, the blaze affected only the foam blocks warehouse, while other sections of the factory were saved by firefighters.

The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident in a statement issued Friday.

He revealed that the fire was reported at exactly 8:50 p.m., and firefighters, led by ACFS Tijani Bamidele, were quickly dispatched to the scene.

“On arrival, the warehouse was already engulfed in flames. Our officers swiftly applied firefighting chemicals and contained the fire within 15 minutes, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the factory,” Akinyinka said.

He added that the fire was initially reported by a passerby who noticed smoke coming from the building.

The Senior Adviser on Fire Service Reform to Governor Seyi Makinde and Chairman of the Fire Service Agency, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, also visited the scene. He urged the company’s management to prioritize fire safety and ensure proper preventive measures are in place to avoid future incidents.

Akinwande reassured the public of the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property and encouraged residents to support fire service operations when needed.
