Omale Omale’s appointment: Breathing new life into APC’s revival in Apa-Agatu

The appointment of Barrister Omale Omale, a distinguished legal luminary from Apa, as a Commissioner for Trasnport and Power by the Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency Dr. Rev. Fr. Alia, has sent ripples of euphoria, jubilation, and excitement among the residents of Apa-Agatu.

This strategic move has ignited discussions and consensus among political players and observers within the federal constituency.

The decision to appoint Omale is perceived as more than just a step to infuse his wealth of experience into the state’s executive council. It is viewed as a calculated manoeuvre aimed at rectifying the errors of past political decisions made by leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in both Apa-Agatu local government areas and the state’s political landscape.

These decisions have left the once-thriving fortunes of the party in Apa-Agatu teetering on the edge, overshadowed by uncertainty.

A palpable sense of unease was palpable within the camp of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the announcement of Barr. Omale Omale’s nomination. This reaction is a testament to his political significance and influence within the federal constituency.

Omale played a pivotal role in sowing the seeds of what has grown into the APC in the federal constituency of Apa-Agatu. Alongside other prominent figures, he dedicated his time, personal resources, and financial commitment to cultivate the party from its earlier iterations such as Alliance for Democracy (AD), Action Congress (AC), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and other like-minded groups. His contributions were instrumental in the eventual formation of the APC, which later assumed power at the national level.

Having served as the former Benue State APC Legal Adviser, Barr. Omale Omale played a crucial role in propagating the ideals of the APC within the state. His efforts earned him several titles, including that of a planter, bridge builder, buffer, and a philanthropist of national repute.

In the 2015 general election, he fearlessly contested as the APC’s House of Representatives candidate for Apa-Agatu federal constituency, displaying remarkable tenacity and resilience despite facing formidable challenges. His commitment was apparent in both his superlative performance and the physical scars borne from his arduous campaign.

Barr. Omale Omale’s dedication to the APC and his eagerness to further promote its ideals led him to vie for the state chairmanship of the party, supported by youth leaders and Benue South party leaders under the guidance of former Senate President Distinguished Senator Ameh Ebute. This pursuit, though ultimately taken away from him, demonstrated his unwavering determination to enhance the party’s fortunes and challenge the influence of political godfathers.

While his appointment as a ministerial candidate for Benue State was not realized due to ethnic political dynamics, the nomination of Barr. Omale Omale into Governor Alia’s cabinet is seen as a strategic move to revitalize and reshape the APC’s future. It is an effort to restructure and position the party for success ahead of the 2027 general election.

His absence from the political stage during the 2023 election contributed to the party’s unfavorable outcome. With his new role as a commissioner and leader of Apa-Agatu APC, Barr. Omale Omale is poised to embark on a journey of genuine reconciliation, bridging divides, and winning the hearts and minds of constituents.

Through these efforts, he aims to restructure, rejuvenate, and restore the party’s waning fortunes within the federal constituency, ultimately leading it back to a path of victory.
