‘Better to give Idoma people bread than wee wee’ — Sam Ode

Speaking with newsmen after a visit to the Living Faith Church, Otukpo, Ode said critics were focusing on trivial issues instead of the administration’s commitment to reviving industries, improving security and delivering development across the state.

“The controversy over whether I gave bread to the people is not an issue,” he said.

“When we were young, whenever our parents travelled or visitors came, what we looked forward to receiving was bread. It was just a token which I took to the people who came to receive me. They were happy. They were dancing. I also gave them money, which the Governor directed me to give them.”

The Deputy Governor added, “At least it’s better than giving them wee wee.”

Ode maintained that the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia remains focused on addressing the real concerns of the people rather than engaging in unnecessary controversies.

“We want to talk about issues, not those mundane things. What is important is that we are embracing the challenges of the people. We are listening to them and we are trying to address those issues that are of concern to them because they voted us into office for their welfare and security, and that we are committed to do,” he said.

The Deputy Governor also used the opportunity to highlight the government’s ongoing efforts to revive moribund industries in the state, including the Igumale Cement Factory and Benue Burnt Bricks, saying Governor Alia had directed him to carry out an asset audit of the facilities as part of plans to restore them to full operation.

He further called for collaboration between government and the church in promoting peace, urging religious leaders to continue praying for an end to insecurity and bloodshed in Benue State.
