The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed a major breakthrough following the successful rescue of all victims kidnapped during the Otukpo attack.

The incident, which involved passengers aboard a Benue Links bus, took place on April 15, 2026.

In a statement, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, Force Public Relations Officer, disclosed that acting on credible intelligence, officers of the Benue State Police Command carried out coordinated clearance missions across the Amla Forest axis and nearby locations.

He explained that the operation led to the safe release of the remaining 13 victims, including eight candidates en route to Otukpo to sit for their UTME.

“In total, all 18 passengers have now been accounted for. Each rescued individual has undergone medical evaluation, is in stable condition, and will be reunited with their families following debriefing,” he stated.

The police spokesman added that seven suspects were arrested during the operation, with three already confirmed as members of the kidnapping gang.

He noted that efforts are ongoing to track down other collaborators and dismantle the wider criminal network behind the incident.

He confirmed that the suspects are in custody and are being interrogated in accordance with legal procedures.

Placid further revealed that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the Benue Command for their courage, professionalism, and dedication.

He added that the IGP has ordered intensified clearance operations in Otukpo and surrounding areas to strengthen security.

He reassured Nigerians of the Nigeria Police Force’s continued commitment to protecting lives and property nationwide.
