Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus has opened the door for Cristiano Ronaldo to return to the national team, saying the decision ultimately rests with Ronaldo.

Jesus said there is no barrier to Ronaldo returning, describing the disagreement between them as a “misunderstanding”.

“Everything is open, Cris has to decide his own life. It doesn’t depend on me… it was a misunderstanding between us,” Jesus said.

The coach also believes the situation can be resolved easily if Ronaldo decides to return.

“Cris has to decide. In my view, it’s easy to resolve,” he added.

Jesus’ comments have renewed speculation over Ronaldo’s future with Portugal, with the possibility of the captain returning to the squad still open.

Ronaldo had reportedly left Portugal’s training camp after the second match, following his omission from the starting lineup. The forward spent the entire 90 minutes on the bench in Portugal’s previous game, before the disagreement that led to his reported departure from the camp.

The incident raised questions over Ronaldo’s relationship with Jesus, but the Portugal coach’s latest comments suggest that the dispute could be resolved and the door remains open for the 41-year-old forward.
