Rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, , has defended calls for a ₦500,000 minimum wage in Nigeria while criticising what he described as excessive spending by political office holders.

The remarks were contained in a statement shared on Sowore’s official page.

According to the statement, Sowore questioned claims that Nigeria lacks the financial capacity to implement a higher minimum wage for workers.

He also referenced allegations circulating online involving and claims linked to campaign funds.

“If there is money for politicians, there must be money for workers.

“₦500,000 minimum wage is not the problem. The problem is a political class that treats public funds as private property while millions of Nigerians suffer,” the statement read.

Sowore further argued that Nigeria’s economic challenges are largely caused by corruption and misplaced priorities rather than a lack of financial resources.
