The Minister of Arts, Culture, and Creative, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, on Saturday, describing it as “one death too many.”

In a statement following the demise of the veteran actor, Musawa conveyed her profound sadness at the news of the renowned Nollywood actor’s death. Mr Ibu passed away in a hospital at the age of 62 after battling a prolonged illness.

Musawa lamented, “I’m deeply shocked at the number of deaths occurring simultaneously. Mr Ibu was a household name who brought joy to families throughout his acting career.”

“His passing at this time is incredibly unfortunate and a significant loss for all of us in the entertainment industry. We will dearly miss him. May his soul rest in peace,” Musawa stated.

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) had earlier confirmed the actor’s death, following initial uncertainties. AGN President Emeka Rollas took to social media to announce the sad news, stating that the popular comedian passed away from cardiac arrest.

“It is a sorrowful day for the Actors Guild of Nigeria. Kate Henshaw lost her mother earlier today, and Mr. Ibu suffered cardiac arrest, according to his manager of 24 years, Mr. Don Single Nwuzor,” Rollas wrote.

“I announce with a heavy heart that Mr. Ibu has passed away. May his soul find peace,” Rollas added.
