Three-storey building collapses in Abuja

A three-storey building has collapsed in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, triggering an emergency response as rescue agencies race to determine whether anyone is trapped beneath the debris.

Personnel of the FCT Fire Service were deployed to the scene and commenced search and rescue efforts.

Three ambulances were also reportedly positioned at the site to respond to any casualties.

The FCT Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that it received a distress call regarding the building collapse.

Several emergency and security agencies have joined the operation, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Federal Fire Service (FFS), Security Service Department and the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

The FCTA Development Control Department had previously sealed the structure and instructed occupants to vacate the premises.

Police preliminary findings indicated that the building had already been identified and sealed by the Abuja Development Control Department before the collapse occurred.

As of the time of filing this report, no casualty had been officially confirmed.

However, rescue personnel remain at the location, combing through the rubble to ascertain whether anyone is trapped underneath and to evacuate possible victims.
