The Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has achieved a significant breakthrough in securing the conviction and sentencing of two fraudsters, Mohammed Maidugu and Allen Abel, by Justice Umaru Fadawu of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri.

Mohammed Maidugu was found guilty of dishonestly copying the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) Personal Identification Number of a bank customer. After more than three months of trial, he was sentenced to two years in prison for attempting to commit theft. The conviction was based on evidence presented by the prosecuting counsel, Shamsuddeen Olayinka Saka.

On the other hand, Allen Abel was arraigned on multiple charges, including obtaining money under false pretenses, forgery, and criminal misappropriation, amounting to N10,151,000. After a full trial, he was found guilty and sentenced to ten years in prison. The court also ordered Abel to pay back the sum of N10,151,000 to the victim.

In another case, the EFCC arraigned Bulama Yahaya before Justice Fadawu on a one-count charge for obtaining N8,000,000 by false pretense. The defendant pleaded not guilty, and the trial is set to commence on July 25, 2023.

The EFCC’s success in convicting these fraudsters reflects their commitment to ensuring justice and combating financial crimes in the region.
