Victory for Eto’o: CAS overturns CAF’s ban on his election bid

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled on Friday that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) must allow Cameroonian football chief Samuel Eto’o to contest a position on its executive committee.

CAF had previously rejected the candidacy of the former African Player of the Year, who has led the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) since 2021.

The election is set to take place next week during CAF’s general assembly meeting.

Eto’o, 43, a former Barcelona star who is also embroiled in a dispute with Cameroon’s sports ministry, took his case to CAS after CAF’s decision to bar him from the race.

“The CAF Executive Committee is ordered to include Mr. Samuel Eto’o Fils in the list of candidates for election to the CAF Executive Committee by the CAF Extraordinary General Assembly Meeting on 12 March 2025,” CAS, based in Lausanne, stated in its ruling.

According to sources in Cameroon, Eto’o is seeking a position as CAF vice-president.
