Why Nigerians don’t trust their leaders – US Congressman Riley Moore
United States Congressman Riley Moore has called on the Nigerian government to work closely with the U.S. in tackling the country’s escalating insecurity.
Moore made the remarks on Thursday during a hearing of the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Africa, which is reviewing former President Trump’s decision to redesignate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC).
He highlighted the growing distrust among Nigerians toward their government, citing instances where authorities failed to respond to imminent threats.
“The Nigerian people have lost confidence in their government. How can you trust a government that does not act when called upon?” Moore said.
“The Nigerian authorities must cooperate with the U.S. to address these security challenges. For example, in Plateau State, a pastor alerted the government about an imminent attack within 24 hours. Not only was the warning ignored, but the government dismissed it as fake news.”
IDOMA VOICE gathered that Moore is scheduled to meet with senior Nigerian officials to discuss both the security crisis and the U.S. CPC designation, aiming to explore coordinated solutions to protect vulnerable communities.
