Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has openly defied his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), daring its leadership to take disciplinary action against him. Wike made this audacious statement during an interview on Wednesday with Channels Television’s Politics Today program.

The former Governor of Rivers State, who recently assumed the position of FCT Minister, attracted attention due to his appointment under the aegis of President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party.

Wike addressed the criticisms he faced following his alignment with the rival political party by asserting that he had informed the PDP leadership about his decision to accept the ministerial offer from President Tinubu.

Responding to the question of whether he is apprehensive about potential disciplinary measures from the PDP, Wike retorted, “Who is the party? Who are the PDP people?” He went on to question the authority of those considering his expulsion, highlighting his state’s significant contributions to the party’s success.

He pointedly remarked, “The person that would suspend me is the one that couldn’t produce a governor, is the one that couldn’t produce senators and Assembly?” Wike emphasized his pivotal role in delivering elected officials for the PDP, underscoring that he hasn’t encountered anyone worthy of taking such action against him. He suggested that instead, he should be the one calling for discipline among those who violate the party’s constitution.
