The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to connecting satellite towns and area councils with the city centre is being fulfilled through ongoing infrastructure projects.

Wike spoke on Monday during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of an access road linking Tunga Madaki to Zuba in the FCT, an event held to mark President Tinubu’s third year in office.

The minister attributed the progress of the project to the support of President Tinubu and the National Assembly, noting that the road expansion followed the earlier commencement of the Bill Clinton Drive to Tunga Madaki project.

“Indeed, this has been possible because of the support of Mr President and that of the National Assembly. When we flagged off the Bill Clinton to Tunga Madaki road, we never knew we would have the opportunity to also flag off the Tunga Madaki down to the Abuja-Kaduna highway, where we have Zuba,” Wike said.

He explained that the extension of the project was prompted by a request from the newly elected chairman of Zuba Area Council, who highlighted the need for improved connectivity between Zuba, Gwagwalada, and other parts of the FCT.

Wike said the project aligns with President Tinubu’s directive that all communities and satellite towns within the territory should be linked to the city through improved road networks.

“What we are doing today is to fulfil that promise that Mr President has made that during his time, all satellite towns and all area councils will have the attention of this government,” he said.

The minister also praised the Zuba Area Council chairman for attracting the road project to the community, describing the initiative as an example of effective leadership.

He noted that residents of communities around Tunga Madaki, despite being close to the airport, previously lacked direct access to it. According to him, the new road would provide easier connectivity to the airport and improve movement within the area.

Wike further said the ongoing projects demonstrate that development is taking place in the FCT despite criticism from some quarters.

“I hope those who say that nothing is happening can now see that something is happening,” he said, adding that the road project would be completed and commissioned before the next presidential election.
