You are calling for war in Nigeria – Femi Fani-Kayode warns Sheik Gumi

Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, has accused the renowned Islamic Scholar, Ahmad Gumi, of deliberately stoking religious and ethnic tensions in Nigeria.

Fani-Kayode was reacting to Gumi’s recent statement, in which he suggested that Nigeria should not entrust the vital responsibility of securing the nation to Christians.

During a sermon, Gumi also cast doubt on the possibility of President Bola Tinubu securing a second term if unspecified demands were not met.

Tensions escalated when Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), held discussions with an Israeli envoy in Abuja, primarily concerning security matters in the capital. In reaction to this meeting, Gumi expressed his disapproval and called for the removal of Minister Wike while hinting at intentions to transform Abuja into a city reminiscent of Tel Aviv.

Fani-Kayode, a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has responded to the situation by urging the Federal Government to exercise caution and take necessary measures to address Gumi’s incendiary statements. Fani-Kayode released a comprehensive two-and-a-half-page article on Sunday, emphasizing the urgency of the matter.

He stated, “Whichever way you view him, one thing is clear: Gumi is trying to ignite a religious and ethnic war in Nigeria, and someone needs to call him to order before it is too late.”
