2027: ADC names David Mark as interim chairman

The opposition coalition on Tuesday announced it has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This marks a significant step in the coalition’s bid to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

As part of the announcement, the coalition unveiled several interim leaders of the party.

Former Senate President David Mark has been named national chairman, while the immediate past Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, will serve as national secretary. Former Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, has been appointed the party’s spokesperson.

The coalition had previously attempted to register a new party, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), after earlier negotiations with both the ADC and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) stalled. However, when it became clear that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) might frustrate the registration of ADA, the coalition resumed talks with the ADC.

The formal unveiling of the new arrangement is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
