Senator Abba Moro, representing Benue South Senatorial District, has declared his intention to seek a third term in the Senate, stating that his decision is driven by the need to consolidate ongoing development and deepen representation for the zone.

Moro made this known on Friday, May 1, 2026, after picking his nomination form under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Addressing constituents, the lawmaker said his seven years in the Senate have yielded measurable progress, noting that he has consistently “spoken loudly” and placed Benue South prominently on the national stage.

According to him, several bills and motions he sponsored have had direct impact on the district. He cited key legislations such as the establishment of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, and the Federal College of Agricultural Technology, Ojapo-Opialu, all of which have received presidential assent.

Full text of his speech below:
My dear people of Benue South Senatorial District,

Today, May 01, 2026, I picked my form to seek re-election to the senate to continue to represent you in the Upper Legislative Chamber.

In the last seven years that I have been holding your mandate in the senate, we have recorded remarkable progress in our zone.

I have been able to speak loudly for you and boldly put Benue South on our national map.

Within the period in view, I have sponsored motions and bills that have direct impacts on our lives and land.

Amongst those bills and motions are the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, and the Federal College of Agricultural Technology, Ojapo-Opialu Establishment Bills that have all been assented to by the president.

There are others such as the Power Rotation Bill, Independent Candidacy Bill, Local Government Financial and Administrative Autonomy Bill, Apa State Creation Request and Federal College of Agriculture and Technology Bill that are at various legislative stages.

On motions, I have been bringing up issues that concern Benue South and Nigeria at large on the floor of the senate. I have drawn the attention of the federal government and the international community to the sustained killings in Zone C. I have raised concerns over unregulated charges by service providers, age limit requirement for job seekers, amongst many others.

On infrastructure; From Day one, I acknowledged the gross infrastructural deficit in Zone C and have never stopped talking about it in the senate.

I have been able to move several motions to that effect. While we are seeing significant improvement in some areas, like the ongoing works on the Makurdi-Otukpo-Otukpa federal road, we are hoping to see significant changes in the other deplorable roads in the zone.

On my part, I have been able to facilitate and execute several projects in Zone C. These projects range from bridges, roads, health centers to rural electrification, construction of classroom blocks, provision of boreholes, youth empowerment, etc. The biggest of these projects is the ongoing reconstruction of Otukpo-Obi-Oju federal road that’s gulping billions of naira and which we are poised to complete before we leave the stage.

My dear constituents, my ambition to represent you in the senate beyond 2027 is not all about personal benefits but for our collective good. I understand that we have not gotten to where we desire to be yet we are unarguably not where we were yesterday. We have greatly made progress and are hopeful that we will get to the desired destination if we continue on this lane.

As I put myself forward for re-election, to consolidate on our gains so far and explore greater opportunities for our land, I want to appeal to everyone, young and old, to join hands with me and support me so that we can do it again, like we did in 2019 and 2023.

The next term promises to be more fruitful and gainful for Benue South. Having been in the senate for two terms already gives me an edge over a new entrant. My voice will be louder and command more respect in the 11th Senate, and I will definitely use that influence to attract more developmental dividends to our land and speak for us at all times.

I promise, as I have always done, that I will continue to serve you with all the strength in me and never disappoint you.
