28 killed, 19 injured in Ethiopia bus accident

At least 28 people have died and 19 others were seriously injured after a bus veered off the road and plunged into a river in southern Ethiopia on Wednesday, local authorities confirmed.

The accident occurred in the Wolaita region, approximately 400 kilometers (250 miles) south of Addis Ababa.

According to officials, the bus swerved down a steep slope and sustained severe damage, with its roof ripped off upon impact.

Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities work to determine the total number of passengers on board at the time of the crash.

Images shared on social media show the bus submerged in the river with extensive damage to its structure. The cause of the accident has yet to be confirmed.

Authorities are continuing efforts to recover more victims from the scene.
