Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has announced that 369 clinical students have so far benefited from the revitalized state bond programme aimed at strengthening the state’s healthcare workforce.

The governor made the disclosure on Saturday, October 11, 2025, while presenting his administration’s scorecard during an expanded APC stakeholders’ meeting at the party’s state secretariat in Makurdi.

Governor Alia explained that under the restructured bond scheme, all beneficiaries are required to serve in state-owned hospitals for two years upon completion of their studies. The initiative, he said, forms part of his administration’s broader strategy to expand access to quality healthcare services across Benue State.

He praised the management of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, describing it as a “major tourist attraction and a centre of medical excellence.”

The governor commended Dr. Terungwa Stephen Hwande, Chief Medical Director of BSUTH, and his management team for implementing reforms that have improved healthcare delivery and repositioned the hospital among Nigeria’s leading medical institutions.

According to Governor Alia, BSUTH now boasts modern infrastructure, advanced medical equipment, and a highly dedicated workforce, providing world-class healthcare services to residents.

He further revealed that the salaries of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other medical personnel at the teaching hospital have been harmonized with those of their counterparts in federal and other leading teaching hospitals nationwide.

The event was attended by APC stakeholders, government officials, and party supporters from across Benue State, who gathered to review the administration’s achievements and progress under Governor Alia’s leadership.
