Troops arrest suspected Boko Haram informant in Borno
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai arrested a suspected Boko Haram informant and collaborator in Izge community, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist support networks in the North-East.
Security sources said intelligence led to the arrest. Investigators obtained the intelligence during the interrogation of an earlier suspect, Abubakar Usman, also known as Buba. Troops arrested him on June 13 for alleged links to the terrorist group.
Sources said Usman identified another suspect, Modu Auta, 24, as a member of the network. He also said Auta had relocated to Izge community.
Troops of the 114 Battalion acted on the intelligence on June 15. They deployed to Izge and arrested Auta during the operation.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted that he lived in Denbe, near Sabil Huda in the Sambisa Forest axis. The area is known for terrorist activity linked to Boko Haram.
Security sources said the suspect also named other alleged members of the network. The names include Amodu Haruna, Ibrahim Idris, Tanko, and Ibu.
Authorities transferred the suspect to the 26 Task Force Brigade for further investigation. Security forces are also tracking the other individuals named during questioning.
Military authorities said the operation aims to break terrorist support networks. They also said it is part of wider efforts to cut off insurgent access to informants and logistics support.
They added that the security situation in the North-East remains calm but unpredictable. Troops continue to carry out counter-insurgency operations across the theatre.
