The Nigerian Senate faced a significant setback as they failed to confirm the appointment of Malam Nasir El-Rufai, the immediate past governor of Kaduna State. Out of the 48 ministerial nominees presented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, an overwhelming majority of 45 nominees were successfully confirmed.

Following the confirmation of the 45 nominees, Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio disclosed that Nasir El-Rufai and two other nominees did not receive clearance in the security checks. As a result, their appointments were not approved.

The three individuals who were not cleared by the security checks are Malam Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), Stella Okotete (Delta), and Danladi Umar (Taraba).

This development has drawn attention and raised concerns among political circles, leading to speculations about the reasons behind the failure to secure clearance for these nominees. The Senate’s decision not to confirm Nasir El-Rufai, who has a prominent political profile, is likely to fuel discussions and debates in the coming days.
