The Nigeria Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has taken decisive action in response to the arrest of a customer, Chioma Blessing Edoka, by Erisco Foods Limited with the assistance of the Nigerian Police Force, over a Facebook post about one of the company’s food products.

In a tweet, Babatunde Irukera, Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, confirmed Chioma’s arrest and the transfer of her case to Force Headquarters in Abuja. He expressed concern over the involvement of the police in what he deemed a civil issue between the company and a customer.

Irukera stated, “UPDATE: @fccpcnigeria operatives have confirmed arrest & transfer of the case to Abuja by the Police Force. She was no longer at the station on arrival. Working to determine the exact current location & engaging Force HQ in Abuja. Summons are being issued to @EriscoFoodsLtd immediately.”
