Monday Odigie, the coach of Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin, has resigned from his position following a disappointing 2-3 loss to Rangers International of Enugu last Sunday.
Sources revealed that Odigie submitted his resignation letter to Club Secretary, Mr. Charles Ihimekpen, shortly after the defeat. It was also reported that the coach had considered resigning after the Match Day 10 fixture against Sunshine Stars of Akure, but a 2-1 win in that match delayed his decision.
Before stepping down, Odigie made solo trips to Akure and Enugu, returning without the team, fueling speculation about his resignation. The team is currently at the bottom of the 20-team league following their Week 12 loss to Rangers.
Bendel Insurance will face Kwara United in a Match Day 11 clash at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin this Saturday at 4 p.m. As of now, the club’s management has not issued an official statement regarding Odigie’s departure.
Meanwhile, Greg Igbinoba took charge of the team’s Thursday training session at the main bowl of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.
