La Liga: Jude Bellingham strikes again as Real Madrid topple Girona

Jude Bellingham continued his remarkable scoring streak in La Liga, netting for the fifth consecutive game as Real Madrid secured a victory over Girona.

The England midfielder, who had not scored in the league earlier this season, has now become the first Real Madrid player to score in five straight league matches since Karim Benzema achieved the feat in March and April 2021.

Bellingham’s latest strike came late in the first half, as he fired a bouncing ball into the net from 16 yards out.

After the break, Bellingham showcased his playmaking abilities, delivering a perfectly weighted through ball for Arda Güler, who slotted home Madrid’s second goal.

The former Birmingham City and Borussia Dortmund star was substituted after the hour mark for Dani Ceballos following a minor knock. Manager Carlo Ancelotti later confirmed that Bellingham is fit and will be available for Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Atalanta.

Kylian Mbappé added to Madrid’s tally with a clinical strike from Luka Modrić’s pass, marking his ninth La Liga goal and his 200th career league goal. The Frenchman reached this milestone after scoring 16 league goals for Monaco and 175 for Paris Saint-Germain.

Real Madrid now sit two points behind league leaders Barcelona, who were held to a 2-2 draw with Real Betis. Crucially, Madrid still have a game in hand as they chase the top spot in the standings.

Quoted on Real’s website, Ancelotti said: “Bellingham scored his fifth goal in five games and he’s in good form. His leg is feeling the strain. He preferred not to risk it in the last few minutes.

“He’s fine and is available for Tuesday.”
