Two individuals lost their lives in an explosion caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, on Wednesday.

The tragic incident occurred at a housing estate under construction in Dalwa, a community located 175 kilometers from Maiduguri. The estate, which consists of 200 units, was the site of the explosion around 1 PM, coinciding with the commissioning of housing projects by Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State and Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State.

A source told Channels Television that a similar explosion took place on Tuesday, although further details are yet to be revealed.

Dalwa, like many other communities in the region, has been severely impacted by Boko Haram insurgency. Governor Zulum initiated the reconstruction of Dalwa, including the development of the new housing estate.

In a related incident, Naija News reported that two explosive devices detonated in the Dansadau District of Maru Local Government Area, Zamfara State, last week, marking the third attack in the area within a week.

The explosions took place simultaneously on the Dansadau-Malamawa and Malele roads. A local resident, Nuhu Babangida, recounted how passengers narrowly escaped death when a Canter truck, loaded with grains and heading to the Dansadau weekly market, triggered one of the devices. Fortunately, there were no casualties in this incident.

Zamfara State has experienced a series of bombings, with a recent explosion on a bridge in Yar Tasha village killing at least 12 people. Witnesses said a commercial driver unknowingly detonated the bomb while transporting passengers to Dansadau.

Last Sunday, a bomb planted by bandits killed the driver of an 18-seater bus, the only occupant. The increasing frequency of these attacks has raised concerns about the worsening insecurity in Zamfara, with locals fearing that bandits are deliberately planting explosives to disrupt movement and instill fear.
