Nigeria in full-blown security crisis, declare state of emergency now – Peter Obi
Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has decried the worsening state of insecurity in the country, calling on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency.
Obi, in a post via his official X handle on Sunday, lamented that Nigeria is “bleeding,” following a weekend of multiple attacks that claimed scores of lives.
Recall that eight personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, were killed in Edo State, while five soldiers and 58 civilians were feared dead in Borno State.
The former Anambra State governor described the killings as fresh evidence that the nation is in the grip of a full-blown security emergency.
While condoling with the families of the victims, Obi urged the government to urgently arrest and prosecute the perpetrators.
“When over 100 Nigerians are killed in a single weekend, our casualty figures rival those of countries officially at war. This is no longer business as usual.
“It is time to declare a national war on insecurity, to mobilise every resource, every agency, every state, and to suspend all distractions while we begin the process of reclaiming our nation from lawlessness,” he wrote.
