President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the removal of Maryam Sanda, who was sentenced to death in 2020 for the murder of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, from the federal pardon list.

This development was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the President directed that individuals convicted of serious crimes — including murder, kidnapping, drug trafficking, human trafficking, fraud, and illegal firearms possession — be excluded from the list of those considered for state clemency.

Onanuga added that some individuals previously granted clemency under earlier lists have now had their sentences reduced rather than fully pardoned.

Further details are expected.
