New Tax Laws: BIRS orders withdrawal of staff from produce inspection points across Benue
The Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) has directed the immediate withdrawal of all its personnel from produce inspection points across the state, following the abolition of the checkpoints under the Nigeria Tax Laws 2025.
The directive was contained in an internal memo dated December 30, 2025, issued after an emergency meeting between the Executive Chairman of BIRS, management, zonal tax officers and area tax officers.
According to the memo, the decision was reached as part of preparations for the implementation of the Nigeria Tax Laws 2025, which will take effect from January 1, 2026.
The new tax regime, BIRS said, no longer recognises produce inspection points, prompting their complete removal across the state.
Consequently, all BIRS staff, including POS operators, external supervisors and supporting personnel deployed to the inspection points, are to be withdrawn with effect from 11:59 p.m. on December 31, 2025.
The affected officers have also been directed to report immediately to the office of the Director of Administration and Finance for reassignment.
BIRS management advised all officers concerned to comply fully with the directive, stressing that the move aligns with ongoing reforms aimed at harmonising state tax administration with national tax laws.
