Super Eagles threaten to boycott AFCON quarter-final over unpaid allowances
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have reportedly declined to proceed to the host city of their quarter-final fixture at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) over unresolved issues bordering on unpaid allowances.
A source within the team disclosed the development to *TheCable* on Wednesday, confirming that the players remain in camp amid the standoff.
Nigeria have enjoyed an impressive run at the tournament, recording four consecutive victories and emerging as the competition’s most prolific side with 12 goals.
The Eagles topped Group C before delivering a commanding 4–0 victory over Mozambique in the round of 16 match played in Fez, Morocco.
The Super Eagles are billed to clash with Algeria in the quarter-final encounter scheduled for Saturday in Marrakesh.
However, the host city is about five hours away from their current base in Fez, and the team was expected to make the journey on Thursday.
