Two kidnappers arrested in Benue community
The Chairman of Makurdi Local Government Area, Joseph Keffi, has praised security agencies for their prompt intervention that led to the rescue of several residents kidnapped in separate incidents within the council area.
The abductions occurred earlier in the week across different communities. Mr. Saaondo, Mr. Terfa and Mrs. Msuurshima were taken on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Atôô village, while Mrs. Hembadoon Akiki, Mr. Terzungwe Iortyom and Mrs. Kadoon Iortyom were kidnapped on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Adem in Bar Council Ward.
All the victims were later freed following a coordinated security operation involving multiple agencies.
Speaking through his Special Adviser on Security and Political Matters, Beetseh Terhide Mark, Keffi applauded the joint efforts of the Nigerian Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and community leaders, which also resulted in the arrest of two suspects identified as Ushahemba M. and Victor A.
The council chairman cautioned youths in the area against involvement in criminal activities, particularly kidnapping, and encouraged residents to stay alert and promptly report suspicious movements to security authorities.
He further reassured the people of Makurdi Local Government Area of his administration’s continued commitment to supporting security agencies and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the council.
