The Benue State Government has confirmed its partnership with the Federal Ministry of Justice to investigate the June 13, 2025 attack on Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area.

Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia received a contingent of federal forensic experts tasked with gathering scientific evidence related to the tragic incident.

This development follows the arraignment of nine suspects by the Federal Government on February 2, 2026, before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where the court emphasized the critical role of forensic data in ensuring a fair trial.

In a show of support, the governor, represented by the Director-General of Homeland Security, Air Commodore Jacob Gbamwuan (rtd), and the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Yangien Ornguga, pledged the state’s full assistance to the team during their week-long assignment.

The state government described the deployment as part of ongoing efforts to hold the perpetrators accountable.

Governor Alia also called on residents to stay patient and cooperate with authorities, stressing his administration’s dedication to justice and due process.
