Four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and two other persons have died in a fatal road accident involving a military gun truck and a commercial bus in Adamawa State.

The accident occurred on Wednesday at Narehi in Girei Local Government Area along the Girei–Song Road, according to the Adamawa State Police Command.

Police spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, said the crash involved a military gun truck travelling from Gombi to Yola and a Hummer bus conveying passengers from Yola to Mubi.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the two vehicles collided head-on, causing the commercial bus to somersault and burst into flames.

“All five occupants of the Hummer bus were burnt to death after the vehicle caught fire,” Nguroje stated, adding that four of the victims were NYSC corps members serving in Adamawa State.

The corps members were identified as Suleiman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both from Kaduna State, while efforts are ongoing to confirm the identities of the remaining victims.

A soldier attached to the military vehicle also died in the crash.

Authorities confirmed that the remains of the deceased have been evacuated to the Specialist Hospital in Yola, while investigations continue to identify all victims and trace their families.

The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State sent his condolences to the bereaved families, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the NYSC and all those affected by the tragedy.
