Army General’s death: Military launches operation clean sweep III in Katsina
The Defence Headquarters Joint Task Force (JTF) North West has launched a fresh military offensive, codenamed Operation Clean Sweep III, across Matazu Local Government Area and nearby communities in Katsina State.
Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of JTF North West under Operation Fansan Yamma, announced the operation in a statement.
He said the military launched the offensive in response to the abduction and death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar.
According to Danja, troops began the operation on Saturday, June 14, 2026. Their mission is to track down and neutralise the bandits behind the retired general’s abduction and death. The troops also aim to dismantle the criminals’ networks across the region.
Danja said soldiers have intensified fighting patrols, intelligence-led raids, cordon-and-search missions, and clearance operations in identified hideouts.
“We have launched ‘Operation Clean Sweep III’ across Katsina State,” he said.
He added that troops have recorded significant successes in Dikkawa Hills, Adua, Nasarawa and Karaduwa. During the operation, soldiers destroyed several terrorist camps, logistics hubs and support facilities.
The military launched the offensive as part of ongoing efforts to curb banditry and restore peace in affected communities across Katsina State.
